Students get multi-lingual at Venturers' Academy
Hola! Ciao! Bonjour!
Konichiwa! Guten Tag! Olà!
On Tuesday 26th September, many students across Venturers Trust celebrated the annual European Day of Languages. This is a time to celebrate the 6,000+ languages spoken around the world, promote language learning and have some multilingual fun!
At lunchtime, students at Merchants’ and Venturers’ Academies were able to try some continental dishes, such as ‘spaghetti bolognese’, quiche à la tomate’ (tomato quiche) and ‘arroz con leche’ (rice pudding).
Everyone in the Academy had lots of fun learning about several languages and cultures. Students in Kiwi and Robin classes watched a video clip of ‘Let It Go’ from ‘Frozen’ in 25 languages, and then learnt the different ways to say ‘hello’ in five languages.
The students also looked at a map to see where the different countries were, and discussed any similarities to English, (e.g. ‘hola’ sounds a little bit like ‘hello’ but ‘ciao’ doesn’t)!
Students in Cabot, Brunel and Albatross classes had a brilliant time designing their own ‘European Day of Languages’ t-shirts which they then made with special fabric pens on a plain white t-shirt, and took home.
The staff at Venturers’ were very impressed with the students’ positive attitude to learning and their creative flair. We are already looking to next year’s European Day of Languages and planning some more lovely activities for the students.
